Ahem …

Well yes, it’s been a little while between drinks.

It appears that, sometimes, it’s just not possible to travel, study, cook, learn foreign languages, explore a new city and maintain a blog.

That doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten it though.  I know that the Melbourne food bloggers scene is dynamic, curious and above all, dedicated to great food; I can only assume this is replicated around the country.  I’d like to capture all this energy in one place, to give the public a window into the fascinating world of us food-lovers and to give bloggers a space to meet, to read and perchance to eat.

This blog will stay in slow motion for the rest of this year, but with luck 2011 will see it burst into life.

Stay tuned…

Thanks bloggers!

Wow, thanks so much for all the feedback both here and at www.twitter.com/aussiefoodblogs!

I want this site to be collaborative, so please keep the comments rolling in.  If I have missed your blog it’s almost certainly because I haven’t seen it yet, so please leave a link to it in the comments.

I’m off for a few days in the internet-free wilds, but I will add blogs I’ve missed early next week.

  • Farmers’ Market – Fractals and Monochrome!
This fortnight’s haul… You are extra lucky today, because you are getting *two* market posts for the price of one (which is the low, low price of nothing at all) – apparently, my life got so thoroughly eaten by Eurovision, lurgy, work, and mad competitive walking (of which more later) that I never did get around to posting all my lovely photos from the farme […]
  • Jazz Apples Masterclass with Fast Ed
Last year, I discovered Jazz Apples. However, as I was just starting to enjoy them, the season was over after only a month or so. Last year was the first year that this newly created apple, a cross of Gala and Braeburn apples, was sold to consumers. As the trees weren't as mature yet, the amount of apples available was only small. This year though, Jazz […]
  • Raw Vegan Chocolate Brownie Bites
This is another successful recipe from the always cheerful Hannah from wayfaring chocolate. For some reason regular dried dates make me bloated and feel but medjool dates are fine. I got a big box of medjool dates from costo. These are so simple as long as you have a food processor. Whilst they are not as good regular brownies they do a great job of satisfyi […]
  • The week in brief: 28 May – 3 June
Hello hello! Happy June (eeeeeeekkkk). This week: pizza P-I-M-P-ing, amazingtown spicy ribs, Besito and hot dog frenzy. Look at my ten minute dinner: I used a mandolin to julienne zucchini, then sauteed them briefly with sliced onion and garlic. Five minutes in the pan, a bit of salt, a teaspoon of my chilli sauce, and topped with left over roast meat – dinn […]

Di from The Culinary Library recently wrote an article for artsHub Australia outlining the process we undertook to publish our first book, Alchemy of the Mortar & Pestle, Volume 1 of The Culinary Library. Her article has already had over 5000 views and we hope it will help many emerging writers out there to get their words into print. Check out the artic […]
  • Above & Beyond 天外天 - (Hong Kong)
The newly established Hotel Icon is ambitious in proving itself to stand out from their direct competitors in the vicinity!   The Above and Beyond Cantonese Restaurant already has one of the most gorgeous views of the Hong Kong harbour,  but not content with it’s aspirations,  it takes a look at what has transpired in the local hotel and restaurant scene.  […]
  • Sur Mesure by Thierry Marx, Mandarin Oriental Hotel (Paris) - ♕♕♕♕ 3/4
Thierry Marx is popular and well known to be a visionary chef, probably carrying with him a slightly revolutionary side to his haute cuisine approach.   He deviates from the well established French Fine Dining style and carries his own styling accent,   probably following in the footsteps of Joel Robuchon after his prolonged hiatus and 1st retirement befor […]

Crostini with Balsamic Strawberries, Ricotta and Pea Shoots Potato Wedges Self-saucing Mocha Choc Pudding
  • MUSHROOM AND ASIAGO CALZONI
The other day I had some Asiago cheese left in the fridge and while trying to figure out what to do with it, I stumbled upon this recipe.  I also happened to have all the other ingredients, so I thought of trying it out for dinner.  It was really tasty!  I loved the contrasting flavours and textures: soft and mild potatoes, crunchy and salty speck mixed with […]

  • 2 Yummy BBQ Noodle House
Our friend Michelle suggested 2 Yummy BBQ Noodle House to us as she loves the Super Tasty Boneless Duck. While browsing their menu, I noticed the restaurant offers a Suckling Pig Banquet Menu. I asked Michelle if she has tried that before. She hadn’t….but would love to. So, it was 12 people against one suckling pig. The dinner started with the presentation o […]

  • :: Where I'll Be ::
Hello everybody. I just posted this on my Facebook page. I wanted to let you all know that I am pretty much on hiatus from blogging and Facebooking and the www in general. • Product talk : Dove Nutritive Therapy Nourishing Oil Care Nutri-oil serum
Nuffnang recently gave me an opportunity to trail some of this Dove Nutritive Therapy Nutri-oil to test out, and I've been using it for the last week or so. Dry hair needs more than just moisture, it also needs essential nutrients that restore smoothness, softness & shine. Especially now that winter is coming around, I find that my skin and hair fee […]
  • Diamond Jubilee Chicken
OK so I’m not a Royalist or a Republican but since I moved away from the Motherland 6 years ago I have become a little more patriotic. This year is a special year in the life of the United Kingdom and I wanted to commemorate the fact that Lizzie has spent 60 years being the Queen of England. Whatever your thoughts on the monarchy you can’t deny that 60 years […]
  • Pino’s Dolce Vita Kogarah
It’s 40 years since Pino Tomini Foresti opened Pino’s Dolce Vita Fine Foods. Long before that, as a boy of 12 or 13, he started working with his father. Before he was aloud to ever serve customers, he tells me, he had to be able to bone the head of four different animals to the absolute detail required by his father – to remove the meat in one piece. Pino is […]
  • CoLunching at Miss Chu, Bondi
A thank you to Ricky Chong from Food Morning and Tracy Wang from CoLunching for inviting me to the CoLunching get together at Miss Chu. CoLunching seems to be quite 'hot' right now because it was even on the the Sydney Morning Herald recently. CoLunching is basically a real life social networking experience through dining so to me, it was like twit […]
  • Ragù di salsiccia
For me, this is the perfect Sunday night dinner. I first tried it years ago when experimenting with different ways to use sausages in more interesting ways, and is loosely based on a River Cafe recipe for a quick sausage sauce. It has since become a firm favourite, and the perfect dish when all you have in the fridge is a few sausages. (Hey, it’s been a busy […]

  • Chicken, green bean and red grape salad with basil mayonnaise
I love a classic chicken salad so was really keen to try this when I spotted it online recently.  And it is a particularly lovely salad but … the problem with chefy type recipes is, not that they’re difficult but that there’s a lot of steps to things, not to mention the washing up afterwards.  So I didn’t use the food processor to make the mayonnaise as I co […]

  • Monte Carlo Biscuits
Do you remember eating Arnott’s Monte Carlo biscuits when you were young? Perhaps you still buy them?
